Our consensus approach, built on the peer review process, decouples methodology development from registry operations. Independent panels of experts make and approve methodologies, which are reviewed and updated annually. You can be sure that projects are using best available science and practices and are conservative throughout, reducing the risk in buying high-impact credits for your sustainability reporting.

The OCP is the only registry where methodology development is independent of the registry issuing credits, removing the misaligned incentives and potential for methodologies to overstate crediting at the expense of integrity and trust.
Independent expert panels work together to ratify methodologies, with open discussion of risks and uncertainty. Anyone can view the commentary by browsing draft versions of approved methodologies (v0.1 to v1.0 available).
We partner with rating agencies and carbon insurance providers to ensure every methodology and project meets and exceeds market benchmarks on carbon accounting, additionality, permanence and other core principles.
